WATER CONSERVATION

E   Take short showers and don’t overfill tubs.

Showers use 5 to 10 gallons a minute.

E   Make sure faucets are completely off and repair leaking faucets.  A slow drip can waste 15 to 20 gallons a day.

E   Turn water off and when shampooing, shaving brushing teeth or hand washing clothes and dishes.

E   Check your toilet for leaks. You could be losing up to 100 gallons a day from one leak. Toilets are the largest home water user at 40%.

E   Install water saving devices such as faucet heads and aerators, toilet dams and pressure regulator valves.

E   Water lawns and gardens when needed, slowly, and only between 7 AM and 10 AM. Use an automatic timer and replace damaged or leaking sprinklers.

E   Wash only full loads in the dishwasher.  One load could use as much as 15 gallons of water.

E   Wash only full loads of clothes.  Most washers use 40 to 60 gallons of water per load.
